Dr. David Dockery

Dr. David Dockery

David S. Dockery has been the president of Union University since 1995. Prior to coming to Union, Dockery served as Chief Academic Officer at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dockery is the author or editor of thirty books including Renewing Minds, Southern Baptist Consensus and Renewal, Biblical Interpretation Then and Now, Theologians of the Baptist Tradition, and the Holman Bible Handbook. In addition, he has contributed to over forty other volumes. A much sought after speaker on issues of higher education and cultural issues, Dockery has been invited to present lectures at numerous colleges, universities, and seminaries across the country.

In 2002 Dockery was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and also was named Jackson's Man of the Year in 2008. Dockery has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, as well as the Council for Global Education. He serves on the Board of Reference of Prison Fellowship and has served on the board of Christianity Today where he also serves as a consulting editor. He has served as editor of the New American Commentary Series (B&H) and is the General Editor of the forthcoming series on Reclaiming the Christian Intellectual Tradition (Crossway).

Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1952, Dockery holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and master’s degrees from Grace Theological Seminary, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Texas Christian University. He holds a Ph.D. in Humanities from the University of Texas system. Dr. Dockery and his wife, Lanese, have three married sons and one grandchild.

David L. Allen serves as the Dean of the School of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Professor of Preaching, Director of the Center for Expository Preaching, and holds the George W. Truett Chair of Pastoral Ministry. He and his wife Sherri have four children and one grandchild. Trusting Christ at age of nine, he later felt God’s call to the ministry at sixteen. He received the B.A. at Criswell College, Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Arlington. During his ministry, he has led over 250 revivals and Bible conferences including study tours in Israel, Oxford, and Germany. He is the author of two forthcoming volumes in 2010: Hebrews in the New American Commentary Series (Nashville: Broadman & Holman) and The Authorship of Hebrews: The Case for Luke (Nashville: Broadman & Holman), along with numerous other articles and chapters in multi-author volumes. Dr. Allen is also the co-editor of two volumes scheduled to be released in 2010: Whosoever Will: A Biblical-Theological Critique of Five-Point Calvinism (Nashville: B&H, 2010), and Text-Driven Preaching­ (Nashville: B&H, 2010).

Dr. T.W. Hunt is a noted teacher, speaker, and author who pursues God’s instruction and has a strong desire to see prayer and discipleship ministries grow. He is a member of Spring Baptist Church in Spring, TX where he serves faithfully. Dr. Hunt received a Bachelor Degree from Ouachita Baptist University. He then went on to the University of North Texas where he received both Master and Doctor Degrees. Dr. Hunt has been on faculty at the Oklahoma College for Women, the Spanish Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has also served as interim pastor at churches both in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Hunt was a Consultant in Prayer for LifeWay Christian Resources, and currently spends his time traveling and speaking for colleges, churches, and conferences nation-wide. Dr. Hunt is author to numerous books regarding prayer and discipleship including The Doctrine of Prayer, The Mind of Christ, and The Life Changing Power of Prayer. He also co-wrote the book From Heaven’s View with his daughter, Melana Hunt Monroe. Dr. Hunt is also an accomplished pianist, and he has recently released a CD of classis hymns entitled “Hymns for Him.”

Dr. James Merritt

Dr. James Merritt is the founder and Senior Pastor of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia.  Prior to serving there, he served for 17 ½ years as the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Snellville, Georgia.

From 2000-2002, Dr. Merritt served as President of the Southern Baptist Convention, the world’s largest Protestant denomination.  He has been featured on numerous television programs including Hannity and Colmes, Scarborough Country and 60 Minutes.

Dr. Merritt is the host of Touching Lives International Radio and Television Broadcast Ministry airing in all 50 states and 122 countries around the world on TBN, The Church Channel, and XM Satellite Radio.

He is a popular speaker and the author of several books including Friends, Foes and Fools, God’s Prescription For A Healthy Christian, How To Be A Winner and Influence Anybody and Crown Him King.

Dr. Merritt has a master of divinity degree and a doctor of philosophy degree in Evangelism from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary located in Louisville, Kentucky.

He and his wife, Teresa, reside in Dacula, Georgia.  They have three sons – James Jr., Jonathan, and Joshua – and one daughter-in-love, Natalie, and a new grandson named Harper.

Dr. Mark Estep

Dr. Mark Estep is currently the Senior Pastor at Spring Baptist Church in Spring, TX where he has served for eleven years. After graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Mark went on to receive his Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He later achieved of Doctor of Ministry at Luther Rice Seminary. Dr. Estep currently serves on the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention Committee, and is on the Board of Trustees for LifeWay. Among many other accomplishments, Mark has served on the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention Timothy Panel, the Board of Trustees at Oklahoma Baptist University, the Executive Committee of Baptist Healthcare of Oklahoma, and the Board of Directors for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

Mark has been married to his wife, Robin, for 28 years. They have three children, Chris, Nick, and Chelsea, and also a wonderful daughter-in-law, Cathy. Mark enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and racquetball, and thoroughly enjoys reading. Since his time at Spring Baptist Church, Sunday School attendance has grown from 1100’s to 1500’s and continues to grow. Prayer and Discipleship ministries are areas that he is very committed to, and he has a desire to see God move within his church and the convention.
